US Visa Fee Increases Jan 1
The cost of obtaining a visa to the United States just got more expensive. For those wanting to visit the U.S., as of January 1, 2008, the must pay us$131, up from the current us$100.

The U.S. Embassy in Costa Rica says the additional cost is due to the implementation of a new security system that was demanded by the U.S. Congress.

The embassy informs that those who already appointments for the month of January and have already paid the us$100 will not be required to pay the difference. The new fee is applicable to all new appointments after January 1, 2008.

However, those who have appointments beginning February 1, 2008 and have already paid the us$100, will be required to pay the additional us$31, embassy officials informed.

In addition to the us$131, those looking for a US visa must first pay the us$14 to obtain a PIN number to access the appointment system, bringing the total cost of the visa process to us$145 and no guarantee that a visa will be granted.
