Capitals of Argentina,
Uruguay Agree On Full
Co-op
The mayors of Argentine
capital Buenos Aires and
Uruguayan capital
Montevideo signed an
agreement here on Sunday
to forge closer
cooperation in a wide
range of fields.
The agreement was signed
ahead of the South
American Common Market (Mercosur)
summit scheduled for
Monday and Tuesday.
According to the
agreement, the two
cities plan to share
information in the
fields of health, urban
planning, public
transport and
maintenance, public
hygiene and waste
management.
They will launch
programs to support
small businesses and
improve environment and
communications as part
of their efforts to
boost economic
development.
Both sides also agreed
to hold joint cultural
activities to tighten
links between the two
cities.
Montevideo's Mayor
Ricardo Ehrlich and
Buenos Aires's Mayor
Mauricio Macri signed
the document at a
ceremony in Montevideo's
Solis Theatre.
Argentina, Brazil,
Paraguay and Uruguay
formed Mercosur in
1991with the aim of
creating a South
American common market.
