Guatemala Voters not Fooled by Show
Guatemala's presidential candidates are closing nearly four months of campaigning soaked with ads, trivial songs and promises to be ignored later.

An army of image advisors chose to fill the gap of missing strategies to meet the domestic problems with a repertoire of contagious rhythms like bachata, chachacha, reggaeton and Mexican folk songs.

A survey by Mirador Electoral showed that expenses by the three leading parties from May to July are as follows: Unidad Nacional de la Esperanza ($2.9 million) and Partido Patriota and the government Gran Alianza Nacional ($2.2 million).

Yet such a display does not convince those who plan to abstain, which may reach 40 percent in the September elections, an apathy blamed on poor leadership and hollow promises.
