Legislators Want To Guarantee Gays Right to Donate Blood
A group of fifteen legislators from various parties are giving their support to a proposal that would guarantee that the Blood Bank does not discriminate against gays from donating blood.

The initiative has been prepared by a private organization that will permit bisexuals, lesbians and homosexuals the same right to donate blood, the same rights of heterosexuals, as long as they complete with the requirements that they have no transmittable disease.

According to legislative deputy Andrea Morales, of the Partido Acción Ciudadana (PAC), she decided to sign on the project so that the Legislative Assembly discuss the subject of discrimination that persons of different sexual persuasion suffer.

"I am tolerant and desire that homosexuals have the same righ and are protected in the same way as heterosexuals", said Morales.

A number of other legislative deputies share the same opinion of Morales and are moving forward to ensure that everyone's rights are guaranteed and that sexual preference not be an issue when donating blood.

"The discrimination that only homosexuals are inclined to be infected with AIDS", said Ana Elena Chacón, legislative deputy for the Partido Unidad Social Cristiana (PUSC).

The deputies say that the everyone should have the right to donate blood, except for drug addicts and hemophiliacs and anyone who has a transmittable disease.

Currenlty, in addition to the above, Bancos de Sangre de Costa Rica (Costa Rican blood bank), will reject any donor who has constant sexual relations with prostitutes, who sexual relations with multiple partners without using protection, men who have sex with other men, and those who suffer from chronic diarrhea, high fevers, unwanted weight loss and skin disorders, among other items.
