Costa Rican Guys "Way Cooler" than Stern Guys By Brian Curtin, NYUStern School of Business MANUEL ANTONIO, COSTA RICA - Reports out of Costa Rica have confirmed that local Costa Rican guys are "much cooler" than Stern guys. "They are not only cooler, but also more chill and about twice as laid back" said Jane True, who traveled here with nine Stern classmates. "They're much more into surfing and smoking and not quite as into discounted cash flows," said Suzanne Girolami, "that's the reason we like them so much better than the NYU guys down here." Stephanie Barker helped elaborate, "The pool boy at our villa doesn't know the difference between Barclays and Deutsche Bank. Wow!" Polling indicates that 50% of female Stern travelers to Costa Rica find the locals "More chill" than Stern guys, while 30% find them "Much cooler" and 10% find them "Easier to be around." 10% said Stern guys were "Equally as cool" (as long as they don't talk about job stuff). "They're terrific listeners", explained Michelle Chang. "And I don't think it's the language barrier. I think they're legitimately interested in what we have to say." Mito Yamada added that she was "shocked" that most Costa Rican guys haven't even lined up an internship for the upcoming summer. "How cool!" she added. Local resident Ernesto Guzman was quoted as saying "Yo no se que estos chicas estan hablando, pero me encanta bailando con ellas." Guzman's friend and associate Juan Domingo added "Teniendo muchas bonitas Americanas mirarme surfear causame surfear major." Guzman expressed confusion when asked if he expected a signing bonus for his work at Mujer de Pollo restaurante this summer. "They're not so much about using BlackBerry technology to send and receive emails, list appointments and surf the internet," said Ye Ting. "They're more into picking and eating blackberries, like, the fruit." Many Costa Rican guys don't use any electronic device to remind themselves off their daily surfing appointments, explained Beth Boylan. Many Stern male travelers were hurt by the accusations, explaining that they were "doing their best" to adapt to the Pura Vida lifestyle embraced in Costa Rica. Vinod Chandiramani said he was trying to stay "on the beach and off his email" while here. Ahto Parl was especially hurt and fired back "Maybe we think the Costa Rican girls are more fun, too. Did they ever think about that?" One Stern guy even grew a weak mustache in a misguided attempt to blend in. True was the most vocal critic of the Stern guys, whose "obsessive career focus" and "desire to get ahead" isn't fitting in that well down here. Tosh Forde added that maybe that stuff is impressive at Naked Lunch in Tribeca, but it just doesn't translate to Barba Roja or Bambu Jam. Clementine Martin elaborated that "if they could salsa dance as well as they can analyze complex financial transactions, they'd fit in a lot better around here." "I think they'd need to live down here for an awful long time before they started fitting in," explained Liz Bartfeld.
