Nicaragua's
VP Mocks
Costa
Rica's
Expectations
Of
International
Court
Decision
Nicaragua's
Vice-President,
Jaime
Morales,
joked
earlier
today
that
Costa
Rica's
wait on
the
decision
of the
International
Court of
Justice
in The
Hague (ICJ)
on the
precautionary
measures
requested
against
Nicaragua,
was
"like if
it were
a war of
the
worlds".
Morales
said on
Nicaragua's
local
television
channel
12,
Nicaragua
is
awaiting
the
decision
"with
patience
and
certainty
that the
decision,
which
will be
dictated
by the
ICJ in
the
early
hours of
Tuesday
morning
(Central
America
time)
will be
in their
favour
given
all the
historical,
legal
and
geographical
reasons.
In
contract,
Costa
Rica is
preparing
for a
verdict
as "if
it were
a Star
Wars",
dressed
in white
as if
"they
were
going to
a first
communion",
scoffed
Morales.
"They
are
mobilizing
troops,
protecting
their
embassy
(in
Managua)
like if
a war
was
going to
break
out,
while in
Nicaragua
the
people
are
quiet",
said
Morales.
The
vice-president
said
that
president
Daniel
Ortega
has
acted
with
"great
consideration"
in the
conflict.
Morales
referred
to Costa
Rica's
Public
Security
minister,
José
Maria
Tijerino
and
Foreign
Relations
minister,
Rene
castro,
as
"ministers
of War
and
international
turmoil".
The ICJ
will be
handing
down its
ruling
on where
to
accept
or
reject
the
measures
called
for by
Costa
Rica
against
Nicaragua,
which is
being
accused
of
invading
Costa
Rica and
causing
environmental
damage,
both of
which
the
Nicaraguan
government
strongly
denies.
