Socialist Triumph Predicted
in Venezuela
CARACAS - National Assembly President Cilia
Flores said that the massive turnout in
primary elections of the Venezuelan United
Socialist Party (PSUV) is a prelude of the
organization's triumphs in the parliamentary
election next September 26.
After casting her vote in a polling in which
the PSUV grass root elect their candidates
for deputy, Flores contrasted this event
with that done by the opposition last week
in which only 15 of the 87 electoral
districts came out to vote.
In contrast, the PSUV elections took place
in all the 87 districts with 3,527
self-nominated contenders to choose 110
candidates for the 165 seats in the National
Assembly while the remaining 55 will be
distributed by lists.
Flores explained that the socialists
nominated all the militants they wanted but
in the elections of the opposition
contenders had to pay 40,000 to 50,000
bolivares (from 15,384 to 23,000 dollars).
According to reports from different regions,
the voting process began absolutely normal
and with a good turnout.
Some 6,776,618 Venezuelans registered in
President Hugo Chavez' PSUV were eligible
for voting in 13,677 polling stations
throughout the country to elect their
candidates for deputies. |
