Dengue Death Toll Increases
in Honduras
TEGUCIGALPA - At least 8 people died in
Honduras because of Haemorrhage dengue so
far this year, reported a communiqué of the
health secretariat.
According to the portfolio previously
mentioned the last two deaths because of the
disease occurred last week which incidence
could increase in the recently started rainy
season.
The epidemic increased alarmingly in the
first half of 2010 with nearly 7,000 cases
which figure is three times more than the
one registered in the same period of 2009.
In this respect the health authorities
recommended the population to eliminate
breeding grounds for the transmitter Aedes
Aegypti mosquito So far in 2010 over 6,000
classic dengue cases have been reported and
400 infected with the most dangerous variant
of the evil, the hemorrhagic.
Dengue is transmitted by an Aedes Aegyptis
mosquito bite provoking the high fever,
headache and articulations pain and in its
hemorrhagic variant can be mortal.
That disease killed 12 people here in 2009
from which 8 were children.
The rainy season and tropical storms have
also spread of the disease to Central
American countries like Costa Rica where
infected people have already exceeded 7,000.
