iPad To Arrive In Costa Rica By May

On Wednesday Steve Jobs introduced to the world the iPad, the latest entry by Apple of handheld computers.

The authorized distributor of Apple in Costa Rica, iCon, says that the iPad will be in Costa Rica by May or June.

Although there is no price set for the Costa Rican market, Apple is selling the basic version on its website for us$499.

However, Apple is not shipping the iPad just yet, just taking names and email addresses of the interested.

The iPad in addition to connecting to the internet by way of WiFi, it will also connect by 3G cellular, though its use in Costa Rica will be depend on the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) providing a special chip for the iPad, according to Mauricio López of iCon.

López explained that the 3G chip for the iPad is different than that used by cellular telephones. The 3G option will allow an internet connection basically anywhere there is a cellular signal.
