AH1N1 Vaccination
Begins Today In Costa Rica
Today officially begins the vaccination
against the AH1N1 flu virus. The official
ceremony is to be held at the Caja clinic in
Coronado. Costa Rica last week received the
fist shipment of the AH1N1 vaccine following
more than a week of delay.
The 200.000 doses that arrived last Thursday
will be distributed to those in the high
risk group that includes pregnant women,
health care professionals, emergency
response personnel like Red Cross and police
and those suffering from diabetes,
hypertension, asthma and obesity.
In the coming weeks some 300.000 additional
doses are expected to be received by the
ministerio de Salud as part of Costa Ricas
order of 1.6 million doses from the
Panamercian Health Organization (PHO), which
is purchasing the vaccine directly from the
manufactures for sale to the member
countries.
In Costa Rica all the vaccines are being
administered free of charge at Caja
Costarricense de Seguro Social (CCSS) or
Caja hospitals and Ebais' (clinics).
A second wave of the AH1N1 is expected to be
in Costa Rica next month. |
