Venezuela to US:
Refrain from Occupying Haiti
CARACAS - The United Socialist Party of
Venezuela (PSUV) demanded the United States
to refrain from using the humanitarian
tragedy in Haiti as an argument to occupy
militarily the Caribbean country.
The response of the empire has been to send
a contingent (over 3,000 troops). We wish it
were not a maneuver to remain there, PSUV
leader Hector Navarro warned in a press
conference.
According to Navarro, who is also
Venezuela's Education minister, the
political bloc is following with great
concern the situation in the devastated
nation hit by a 7.3-degree quake that has
left thousands of people killed and nearly
three million victims.
We publicly denounce the maneuver and urge
the US people to make his government give
solidarity aid and attention needed, he
said.
According to Navarro, Washington's military
presence in Haiti complicates even more the
situation in a country victim of enormous
disasters.
At this moment they don't need tanks, war
planes, rifles, much less marines. Haitians
need field hospitals, relief workers,
doctors and nurses, as well as a helping
hand in reconstruction works and selfless
support that does not imply to sacrifice
their sovereignty, he added while extolling

international community.
