Dario's Anniversary
MANAGUA
- Nicaragua celebrates on Monday the 143
anniversary of the birth of the poet and
National Hero Ruben Dario, one of the most
remarkable figures of Spanish literature.
The authorities open the remodeling of the
birth house of Felex Ruben Dario Sarmiento
(1867-1967) in Metapa, Matagalpa department,
as part of the celebrations for the birth of
the poet.
The Ruben Dario Cultural Independence Day
was proclaimed on Saturday during an act in
Leon Viejo that was chaired by President of
the Republic Daniel Ortega and where some
figures were decorated with the cultural
order that has his name.
The poet, who was proclaimed National Hero
by Nicaraguan parliament at the end of 2009,
is considered to be the highest
representative of the movement of literary
Modernism in Spanish language.
"Azul" (Blue) (1888), "Prosas profanas y
otros poemas" (Profane Prose and Other
Poems) (1896) and "Cantos de vida y
esperanza" (Hymns of life and hope) (1905)
are among his main works as well as his
prophetic character "A Roosevelt" (To
Roosevelt), which is an ode in which he
predicts US interventionism in America. |
