Quake Shakes El
Salvador, Guatemala
SAN SALVADOR - A quake of 6 degrees in the
open Richter scale shook El Salvador and
Guatemala Monday, without any mortal victims
reported, according to the authorities.
The National Territorial Studies Service of
El Salvador said the earthquake was
registered at 09:40 local time with an
epicentre in the Pacific Ocean coast, in
front of Guatemala.
A few days after a devastating earthquake in
Haiti, which left thousands of dead people
in this Caribbean country, this telluric
movement in Central America caused a lot of
alarm.
A communiqué issued by the US Geologic
Institute said the quake was located at 24.2
miles southwest of the Salvadorian city of
Ahuachapán, Pacific Coast, and 33 miles
southeast of the Guatemalan city of Cuilapa.
The telluric movement was felt in most of
the Guatemalan national territory, in the
south, east and west.
