Nicaragua's Ortega
Commits Support For Elimination Of Nuclear
Weapons
MANAGUA - President Daniel Ortega has
pledged the support of Nicaragua in the
struggle to get to 2020 with a world free of
nuclear weapons.
During a ceremony to mark
the 400th Anniversary of the transfer of
León Viejo the present site of the city of
León, the president spoke to fight for that
in 2020 a world free of nuclear weapons.
It is a goal that really means a huge
challenge against the ambition of those who
promote and have nuclear weapons, against
those who refuse to renounce nuclear
weapons, he said.
Our challenge is to accompany the people of
Hiroshima, a city martyr U.S. atomic bombing
at the end of World War II, and his
Tadashosi Mayor Akiba, in this struggle so
that the world is freed of the threat, said
Ortega.
Also were awarded the Cultural Order "Rubén
Darío" several persons of culture, crafts
and mayors in the area, as decoration which
was awarded to Japanese mayor.
During the ceremony, which was proclaimed
the Day of Cultural Independence "Ruben
Dario", the president had telephoned a
brigade in the country providing assistance
to alleviate the plight of the Haitian
people, beaten by a powerful earthquake on
12 of this month.
A day earlier, Ortega accused the U.S.
government to use the tragedy in Haiti to
set up their troops in that country, where
it took military control of the airport in
Port au Prince and this is a concern, he
emphasized.
?They want to take this tragedy of the
Haitian people to settle in Haiti and I want
to denounce this,?he said.
