INS Offers Free
Designated Driver For Drunk Drivers
The Instituto Nacional de Seguros (INS) -
state insurer - is offering those who drink
too much while partying a free "designated
driver" or "designated taxi" to get home
without having to drive drunk.
The announcement was made on Friday by the
INS who said it is making available 200
designated drivers and 150 designated taxis
fro the service to its customers of the
voluntary insurance policies with coverages
"A", "C", and "D".
Those coverages include injuries or death
and property damage to third parties, as
well as collision coverage.
The restrictions on the service is that the
insured vehicle not be older than 20 years
and cannot weigh over 5.000 kilos, nor it be
a bus carrying over 15 passengers.
The INS asks for a reservation of a driver
or taxi at least 2 hours in advance. The
designated driver or taxi will take the
driver directly home and without making any
stops in between.
The service is available country wide by
calling 800-800-8001 and is available 24
hours a day, 7 days a week, and restricted
to up three calls in one calendar year for
vehicles of up 6 years old and one call a
year for older vehicles not over 20 years.
INS offers voluntary insurance coverage for
all types of vehicles. Coverage is in
addition to the basic third party coverage
provided in the Marchamo or annual
circulation permit. Policies are for six
month terms, with a three month payment
option at a premium.
