2010 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS
Araya and Muños Align
Their Support With Solís
With three weeks before Costa Ricans go to
the polls in the 2010 presidential
elections, alliances are beginning to form.
On Friday Rolando Araya of the Alianza
Patriótica and Walter Muñoz of the
Integración Nacional signed a deal with
Ottón Solís of the Partido Acción Ciudadana
(PAC).
Araya said his decision to give Solís his
allegiance was based on the "prostitution of
democracy", explaining that some parties
have spent a great deal of money on this
campaign, more than other past campaigns
combined.
Muñoz said that it is important to "rescue
democracy".
Both candidates said that Solís will pick up
the reasonable vote and can form a more
honest government.
The alliance gives the PAC a boost, trailing
in third place behind front runner, Laura
Chinchilla of the Partido Liberación
Nacional and Otto Guevars of the Movimiento
Libertario.
For her part, Chinchilla, said that she
respectes the decisions of Araya and Muñoz
and called on members of those parties to
unite with the PLN party.
Araya was presidential candidate for the PLN
in 2002, losing that election to Abel
Pacheco. |
