Bolivia Returns Stolen
Paintings to Argentina
LA PAZ - The Bolivian government will return
to Argentina four colonial paintings
belonging to the Tafna Temple in Jujuy
province, which were recovered after a
robbery two years ago.
The Culture Ministry's Heritage director
general, Nogardo Jimenez, said the return of
the pieces will be made Friday in the
bordering locality of Villazon, in the
Bolivian department of Potosi, in line with
international treaties.
"It is an international affair dealing with
illegal smuggling of cultural assets, so the
paintings will be returned to the place of
origin," Jimenez sustained.
He explained the presentation of
iconographic materials by Argentine
authorities allowed corroborating the
paintings belong to the Argentine cultural
heritage.
The oil paintings to be returned are Extasis
de San Agustin, Coronacion de la Virgen,
Señor de la Caida, and Cristo Crucificado. |
