Trafficking Sparks Violence
PANAMA - Panamanian Government and Justice
Minister Jose Raul Mulino blamed the
violence affecting Panama and rocketing
fatality rate on the huge trafficking of
drugs brought into the country.
Minister Mulino told TVN Noticias station of
plans to increase police actions to fight
that scourge, as carrying out preventative
operations, establishing police posts in
different points of the country to detect
fire arms and illegal drugs, and improving
the penitentiary security system.
Official data showed that Panama concluded
2009 with 28,554 crimes, including 1,948
robberies, 18,006 thefts and 806 homicides,
114 of which were blamed on gang fights, 92
on executions and 102 on robberies. |
