Homosexual Group Protest Banco Nacional For Firing Woman For Kissing Her Girlfriend At Work

Dozens activists protested in front of the Banco Nacional in San Pedro on Wednesday for the bank's firing of an employee allegedly on the grounds of sexual orientation.

The group of 80 or so protesters, the majority homosexuals and lesbians belonging to the organization "La Ruta del Beso Diverso" gathered in front of the Banco Nacional San Pedro de Montes de Oca branch, to support the firing a woman at the bank for having kissed in public her girlfriend.

Maritza Victoria, leader of the group, this is the sixth time they are protesting the actions of the national bank who fired the woman only for expressing her sexuality openly.

Martiza told the press that the fired employees was not a bank official, but worked at the bank and had a girlfriend on the inside, where she displayed her amorous affections openly during working hours.

The leader of the group said that among the protesters they had a variety of different couples, straight, lesbian and gay.

Maritza says the protest is to pressure the bank into reinstating the woman.

Danny González, director of communications for the Banco Nacional, said that the fired woman did not work directly for the bank and would not comment on the particulars of the case other than to say that "the Banco Nacional has always been respectful of all people, regardless of their sexual orientation. The bank does not have any policy on sexual discrimination."

González added that the woman worked for a company under contract by the bank.
