Palmares Festival Today Until January 25

If are looking for something to do to beat out the cold weather, head out to Palmares, as the annual festival kicks off today at noon.

The Palmares festival is second to the Zapote fair in San José, but perhaps the most visited by Costa Ricans.

Located 30 minutes west of the Juan Santamaría (San José) international airport, the Palmares festival has everything - tope (horses), games, food, bars and lots of live entertainment, including the Mexican singer Lucero.

This year, as well the Policía de Tránsito will maintain a tight ring around Palmares to stop drinking and driving. Spot checks into and from Palmares will be the norm, said Germán Marín, the director of the Tránsito police.

The festival is presented by the Asociación Cívica (ACP) Palmareña.
