Venezuela Socialists to Fight Speculation

CARACAS - Venezuela's United Socialist Party (PSUV) joined the Comptroler's Office campaign to prevent and stop private merchants from overpricing their products.

This is a move to avert an eventual price hike after President Hugo Chavez' announcing the exchange rate as a way to stimulate national production.

PSUV Senior Vice President Cilia Flores said the party will join the government anti-speculative drive aimed at defending the people.

Chavez urged the private sector not to inflate prices and reminded that it is necessary to reduce imports and boost exports, and defined it as means to diversify the economy and break away from traditional oil dependence.
