Moderate Quake Jolts
Honduras-Guatemala Border
MANAGUA - A moderate earthquake rattled the
Honduran-Guatemalan border on Monday. There
were no immediate reports of casualties,
according to press reports monitored here.
The tremor, measuring 4.9 on the Richter
scale, struck 260 km north of the Honduran
capital of Tegucigalpa at 5:40 p.m. (2340
GMT), said Francisco Moncada, an official
with the country's Bureau of Disaster
Monitoring.
The quake was widely felt in Honduras'
western areas and northern Caribbean cities
but no immediate reports of property damage
or casualties have been made, he said.
A tremor of 4.8 magnitude struck the same
area on Dec. 31. |
