Circus Protest In El Salvador

SAN SALVADOR - Members of the group ecoveg.net held a protest on Saturday against circuses and the use of wild animals in captivity. One of the protesters from ecoveg.net said that they wanted to make people, especially children, aware that animals should freely and in their natural environment.

On January the 9th, in San Salvador a group of protesters held a demonstration across a circus.
Protesters claimed that captive animals in circus are mistreated and they said that a circus is not the natural environment for animals.

During the protest, a representative from the circus invited some of the protesters to come in to the circus to see how animals are treated. After several minutes being in there, one of the protester said that animals were being fed at that moment and there was no sign of mistreat while they were inside.” Though, animals are still in cages”, he said.

Photos inside the circus were not allowed.

One of the protesters from ecoveg.net said that they want to make people, especially children, aware of animals must live in freedom, in their natural environment, not in cages. They claim “circus, yes, but no animals”.

Protesters said “there are circuses where animals are not part of the show and in many countries the use of animals in circuses is banned”. Protesters said they will send a letter to the Congress of El Salvador asking for a special legislation to ban the use of animals in circuses.
