AH1N1 Vaccine Should
Be In Costa Rica On Monday
Although the 200.000 doses of the AH1N1
vaccine were to have arrived in Costa Rica
this week, the Ministerio de Salud confirms
that that is not the case.
Salud minister, Maria Luisa Ávila, said
there is a delay in the import of the
vaccine sent to Costa Rica by the Pan
American Health Organization (PAHO).
Ávila said on Saturday that she is expecting
the arrival of the vaccine on Monday, with
distribution to begin by Friday at the
latest.
The first to get the vaccine are those
working in the medical and emergency sector
- doctors, nurses, police, red cross and
firefighters - and then those in the high
risk groups, those with diabetes, asthma,
hypertension, obesity, etc.
The AH1N1 virus claimed 47 lines in Costa
Rica.
A second wave of the virus is expected by
the end of this month or first week in
February. Salud officials say that the
expect a less impact from the first wave and
less deaths.
Costa Rica has asked the PAHO for 1.8
million doses, which is expected to be
delivered in full in the next three months.
