Belize Warns About
Danger of Missing Grenades
BELMOPAN - The commander of a unit of
British Army training in Belize Rob Lindsay,
warned of the potential danger to the
population because of grenades missing from
its establishment.
In 2004 authorities from the military base
reported the theft of 24 of these artifacts
which ended up in civilian hands.
As a result of this action, a 14-year-old
died and two others were injured on December
29 in Belize City for the explosion of one
of the arms.
Lieutenant Colonel Lindsay said the grenades
greatly endanger the lives of individuals
who handle it and the general public.
He added that investigations about the theft
of weapons continue and strengthened the
security measures to prevent further losses
in the arsenal of the military camp.
On May 18, 2008 occurred the first grenade
blast in Belize City the ancient capital of
this nation, with a toll of one death and 11
people injured.
Since then they have exploded five such
devices in the country. |
