Nicaragua: President
Ortega Marks 3 Years in Power
MANAGUA - President Daniel Ortega marked the
3rd anniversary of his return to power in
Nicaragua, period characterized by policies
of great impact on society and a steely
opposition from neoliberal sectors.
Ortega, from the Sandinista National
Liberation Front (FSLN), was out of
government for three government periods, but
he returned with a new spirit to boost a
country project with important successes
such as the illiteracy campaign and free
health care and education.
Breakthroughs in projects for social benefit
like Usura Cero and Plan Techo combine with
a macro-economic stability, programs for
food security and the elimination of
blackouts are unquestionable results, even
in the opinion of liberal opposers.
Ortega has developed important social works
for three years, and after joining the
Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our
America (ALBA) he wants to boost important
works such the building of two
slaughterhouses, two milk factories and a
one of cornmeal at a cost of 130 million
dollars.
After joining ALBA, Nicaragua received
important economic benefits and contribution
of solidarity health programs like "Miracle
Mission" and the mission "All with voice"
that Cuban doctors carry out.
Saturday afternoon, the Coordinator of the
Council on Communication and Citizenry
Rosario Murillo called to celebration that
includes the opening of the pedestrian
avenue Sandino, where photo exhibitions will
