Panamanians Worried about Attorney General's
Case
PANAMA - The Panamanian civil society has
centered attention on the case against
Attorney General Ana Matilde Gomez, after
requests that she is relieved of her duties
to face investigations for possible abuse of
authority.
The Supreme Court of Justice is dealing with
the case, and must pronounce on the request
made by the Attorney General's Office.
Amid the situation created, the president of
the National Bar Association, Ruben Elias
Rodriguez, warned that decision sends a
clear message attempting against juridical
security in the country and the
Constitution.
Businesspeople, jurists, and trade union
members agree the move attempts against
institutionality in Panama.
In addition, the People's Ombudsman Ricardo
Vargas said the Court should thoroughly
examine the process to solve the case in
line with laws and far from any other
purpose.
The requested investigation was made due to
Gomez' alleged abuse of authority when
investigating the case of a judicial
official charged with bribery. |
