Vehicle Restriction Is Back; Ensure 2010
Marchamo Is Paid
Beginning at 6am this morning the vehicular
restrictions of San José is back.
Just in case the holidays made you forget
how it works, vehicles are restricted from
circulating the area bounded by the
Circunvalación on the West, South and East
sides and La Uruca radial on the north,
depending on the last digit of the vehicles
license plate.
Mondays plates 1 & 2 are restricted;
Tuesdays 3 & 4; Wednesdays 5 & 6; Thursdays
7 & 8; and Fridays 9 & 0. There is no
restriction on Saturdays and Sundays.
The restriction is from 6am to 7pm.
In addition to keeping on eye on the
restriction, the Policía de Tránsito, will
be in full operation checking to ensure that
vehicles circulating have paid their 2010
Marchamo, the annual circulation permit.
Driving in the restricted area comes with a
fine of ¢5.000 colones, plus costs. The fine
is being issued, but due to a Constitutional
Court challenge, authorities cannot yet
collect on the fines.
Driving without the Marchamo is ¢10.000
colones, plus Tráfficos (traffic officials)
can confiscate the license plates and/or
vehicle. Then only the registered owner (not
the person currently in possession of the
vehicle) can get back the plates and/or
vehicle.
