Venezuela For Exporting Cereals in 2010
Caracas - Venezuela expects to become in
cereal exporter in 2010 as a result of an
agricultural development program of the
government of President Hugo Chavez,
informed Monday Elias Jaua, Minister of
Agriculture and Lands.
We are self-supplied with white corn and
largely with rice. We have to make an effort
to sow more hectares to generate surplus. We
believe that in 2010, we will initiate
cereal exportations, he underlined.
In declarations to Panorama newspaper of
Zulia west state, Jaua assured that despite
the drought suffered this year, the country
will self-supply with the necessary white
corn.
The harvest barely begins and we can not
move ahead the yields, but we have faith
that it will be good, said the minister, who
also rejected the possibility to reconsider
the price of the product in this situation.
Regarding sugar, he denied versions of a low
sugar cane harvest and pointed that product
supply problems were due to the lack of
capacity of the sugar mill to process it.
Jaua explained that the situation should be
different with the start in the first
quarter of 2010 of the Agro industrial
Complex Ezequiel Zamora, in Barinas state,
that according to previous reports will
produce 100 tons of sugar per year.
