Costa Rican Post Office To Export Its Expertise To The World

Costa Rica will share with the world the successful experiences accumulated by Correos de Costa Rica - Costa Rica's efficient post office - through the "Costa Rica Best Practices" through the Dirección de Cooperación del Ministerio de relaciones Exteriores (Cooperation Directorate of the Foreign Ministry), alloing national institutions more direct contact with Governments, international agencies and other entities.

To that end, the ministro de Relaciones Exteriores, Bruno Stagno and the Gerente General de Correos de Costa Rica, Álvaro Coghi, signed the "Convenio de Cooperación Interinstitucional" - an interinstitutional cooperation agreement - where the national postal service can export its expertise, that includes the desing of postal addresses, postal codes and postal reforms.

The agreement is for three years and each party will do its best to promote cooperation on an international level.

Anyone who has visited Costa Rica will first notice that there are no street addresses and unlikely to remember ever having seen a postal box or a postal delivery worker (mailman).

Most homes and businesses have a postal box, however, rarely is it filled with mail delivered from the Correos de Costa Rica (post office), but rather from mail delivered directly from utilities and of course, junk mail (flyers), again delivered directly and not through the post office.
