GE Money To Close Offices in Costa Rica,
Transfer Services To BAC
GE money said it will close its 16 offices
located around the country as of October 1
and will transfer its operations to the Red
de Pagos de Credomatic and BAC San José, who
between them have more than 200 branches and
points of sale.
Patricio Alemparte, general manager of GE
Money Costa Rica, said there is no need for
GE Money to have its own offices and can
better serve customers using the locations
of the BAC.
The move will entail relocating some
employees, but also the laying off of
others, though Alemparte did not provide
details on the number of jobs that will be
cut.
Alemparte said that the decision to close
offices and transfer services was made some
time ago and customers have already begun to
receive their new card that can be used at
Red de Pagos de Credomatic and the BAC San
José.
For new customers, GE Money will have kiosks
in various BAC branches.
GE Money arrived in Costa Rica in 2006
focusing on personal credit. GE Money is a
brand of General Electric, who by way of GE
Consumer Finance purchased 49.99% of the Red
Financiera BAC in 2005.
In 2007 GE Consumer Finance also purchased
Miravalles through BAC San José, converting
the Miravalles locations into GE Money.
Competing with GE for a piece of personal
credit pie are the Banco Nacional with
CrediTicos and Instacredit and the Popular
with its Creditón, among others. |
