Chavez Calls to Create Farmers'' Militia

Caracas -  Venezuelan agricultural workers are analyzing the creation of farmers'' militias to cooperate with the National Guard, as suggested by President Hugo Chavez.

The Agriculture and Land Ministry said in a press note Chavez made the suggestion via telephone to participants at the meeting of the Front of Farmers and Fishermen in the country's west.

Agriculture and Land Minister Elias Jaua was heading the meeting when Chavez made the call, and asked farmers to organize along with the National Guard.

"I want to see the farmers' militias soon. I want to see them trained to defend the revolution, their families and themselves," said Chavez, according to the note.

Venezuelan authorities have informed that in the ten years of the Chavez government, over 150,000 farmers have been activated, and they have been granted lands, machineries, funds, and technical assistance.

The National Front of Farmers and Fishermen is been coordinated in parallel, and its objective is to raise awareness, and strengthen popular organization and political-ideological formation.
