Honduran Coup Leaders Ban OAS Mission
Tegucigalpa - The Honduran de facto regime
prevented a mission of OAS foreign
ministers, scheduled to arrive here this
weekend, from traveling to the country to
find a solution to the crisis.
Costa Rican President Oscar Arias, who is
acting as a mediator in the conflict,
announced the coup leaders' decision.
According to Arias, the foreign minister of
the de facto regime spoke over the telephone
with an advisor to the Organization of
American States (OAS) to tell him the reason
why they will not be allowed to arrive in
Honduras.
"Things are bad. They can sit to negotiate
again but there has not been an inch of
progress," Arias said.
The Costa Rican president gave up traveling
to Honduras to resume dialogue because the
foreign ministers must to do the previous
work.
The visit of the OAS mission had been
announced this week, shortly after it was
known that Honduran Constitutional President
Manuel Zelaya had arrived in the country and
was, along with his family, in the Brazilian
Embassy in Tegucigalpa. |
