Micheletti Rejects Further Costa Rica
Mediation With Honduras
Tegucigalpa, Honduras (AFP)--Honduras' de
facto leader, Roberto Micheletti, has
declared that Costa Rican President Oscar
Arias' role as a mediator in the Honduran
crisis was over, following the surprise
return of ousted President Manuel Zelaya.
"I think Mr. Arias has absolutely nothing to
do with this conflict any longer, "
Micheletti said in a television interview
late Monday. "His role is finished, from the
moment Mr. Zelaya arrived in the country
without any mediation or agreement in common
with anyone to do it."
Zelaya surprised Honduras' de facto
government by turning up earlier Monday at
the Brazilian embassy here nearly three
months after his ouster and as world leaders
gathered in New York for the U.N. General
Assembly.
