High Tide Floods Caldera, Puntarenas
Some 20 hours were flooded by a heavy swell
that hit the areas of Caldera, Esparza and
Puntarenas Sunday morning.
The phenomenon sent dozens of residents
running, as water levels began to rise in
front of their homes. The majority of the
damage was to electrical appliances.
A tide of more than 3 metres sent the
Pacific coast residents scurrying.
In port of Caldera, the water level rose
above the main road.
Experts of the Centro de Investigación de
Ciencias del Mar of the Universidad de Costa
Rica (UCR) said that phenomenon was a result
of a high tide and a swell, orginiating from
cyclones originating in the Pacific Ocean,
from the Antarctica and reaching Costa Rican
shores.
This is the second time this year such a
phenomenon has hit the Pacific coast at
Caldera. The first was on June 23. |
