Panama Reviews Party Structure

Panama - The Patriotic Union Party (UP) is pondering options to concrete a merger agreement with Democratic Change Party, in an action that would represent changes in the structure of these organizations in Panama.

The UP leadership is to appoint a committee in charge of discussing this step, mainly involving two of the political forces included in the Alliance for Change.

This bloc managed to group also the Panamenista Party and the Liberal Republican Nationalist Movement (MOLIRENA) to bring Ricardo Martinelli to the presidency.

UP President Anibal Galindo said the talks would be held without haste, taking into account that both groups share common views.

With 87,600 members, the Patriotic Union emerged in 2006, as a result of a merger between the Solidarity Party and the National Liberal Party.

Democratic Change is Martinelli's party, which ranks third in number of members, with 126,489 affiliates in late June.
