Honduras Resistance Still on Streets
Tegucigalpa - The National Front against the coup d'Etat
in Honduras will continue popular
mobilization in the country's streets, after
83rd consecutive days of opposition to the
military coup.
"The resistance has been strengthened,
highly moved, and that tell us victory is
near," the Front's general coordinator Juan
Barahona stated.
Barahona said opposition to putschists
includes the country's 18 departments, with
daily demonstrations by the population.
Television channel 36 broadcast Thursday a
series of footages sent by people, about
popular rallies within the nation, among
them the caravan of vehicles.
The Front, created few hours after the June
28 military coup, demand the restoration of
constitutional order, the restitution of
ousted President Manuel Zelaya, and call for
a national constituent, popular,
participative, inclusive, and democratic
assembly.
The demonstration coincided with the
beginning of a 48-hour strike convened by
the Federation of Teachers Organizations of
Honduras, and the day of national homage to
teachers.
Teachers started a national strike against
the coup on June 29 that lasted almost a
month. They later decided to return to
classes three days a week. |
