CNN Objectivity About Colombia Coverage
Denied
Havana - The recent use of Colombian
helicopters to film a report on the guerilla
of that country discredits apparent
objectivity of CNN charged the Investigation
Commission of Attacks to Journalists (CIAP).
Jose Dos Santos, executive director of the
organization considered that the report
revealed the real purpose of the rightwing
coverage of that television station and its
complicity with the government of Alvaro
Uribe.
"CNN reports government military actions to
wipe out the guerrilla but never mentions
paramilitary groups or their link to drug
trade." Then, where is the information
equilibrium they talk of?" Dos Santos
questioned.
He pointed out that CNN works with other
media groups in Latin America to undermine
credibility of progressive governments in
the region and perpetuate hegemonic
domination of the oligarchy.
CIAP presented Thursday in Havana its most
recent report on crimes against journalists
that include an increase of assassinations
as compared to the previous year. |
