Costa Rican President Impressed With Work
Pace At The New Stadium
Costa Rican president, Oscar Arias,
yesterday displayed surprise and said he was
impressed at the fast moving pace of the
Chinese workers building the new Estadio
Nacional (national stadium) in the Sabana
park.
The prez was at the construction site to
personally review the progress, giving the
hundreds of Chinese workers dressed in
purple and wearing red and yellow hard hats,
a pep talk.
“Soquen” was the motivational word by Arias
who is hopeful that the stadium will be
ready for next May for the transfer of power
ceremonies, when Arias hands over the
presidential chair to the new president
which is to be elected on the first Sunday
of February.
The vice-ministro de Deportes, Osvaldo
Pandolfo, who is overlooking the project
said that everything is being done possible
so that the stadium is "presentable" for the
ceremony.
The lack of rain this season has helped move
the project along, which is now its form is
clearly visible from the street level, above
the fence.
The new stadium replaces the old Estadio
Nacional that was torn down last year on the
same spot of the new construction, is being
donated by the government of China. The
us$72 million plus structure will also house
the homes of the Costa Rica's sports
federations, retail stores and a synthetic
athletics track.
