Police Chase Nets 700 Kg Of Cocaine
A persecution by land, air and sea ended in
the confiscation of a speed boat and its
load of 700 kilograms of cocaine off the
Pacific coast near Puntarenas.
The Fuerza Pública said the chase began when
the speed boat neared the Costa Rican coast,
turning away at full speed leading to the
police chase.
Finally the Policía de Control de Drogas (PCD)
and agents of the Sección de Vigilancia
Aérea (air support) were able to intercept
the boat in the area kown as Pueblo Real in
Quepos, Puntarenas.
The speed boat was powered by three outboard
motors and operated by a crew of 3
Colombians and carrying 14 "pichingas"
(large plastic jugs) to hold fuel, only
three of which were full.
Authorities say that when the drug runners
ran when they spotted a police presence
while navigating near the de Damas river
near Quepos.
It appears that the men were well equipped
for the journey, as they has enough good
supplies and bottled water to last several
days. Costa Rican authorities say the
bottled water was labelled from a Colombian
bottler and were approaching the area of
Damas river to refuel.
Police are now looking for the three men who
are able to evade police detention,
abandoning the boat and their haul at the
last minute.
