Colombian Mercenaries to Back Honduran

Tegucigalpa - Paramilitaries in Colombia are
recruiting mercenaries to serve pro-coup
sectors in Honduras, Colombian Tiempo daily
reported on Monday.
They are people demobilized from
paramilitary groups known as United
Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC), as
well as former members of drug trafficking
gangs.
Besides guaranteeing housing and food to
them, they are to be paid a $750-dollar
monthly salary, the report said.
It added that recruiting is being carried
out in a farm in Magdalena Medio, and the
plan is so ahead of time that a first batch
of those people was sent already to Central
America and is currently trading arms.
These mercenaries seem to be coming with the
mission to protect the properties of
Honduran businesspeople, many of whom backed
the coup of June 28 against Constitutional
President Manuel Zelaya.
