Guatemala Devises Malnutrition Plan

Guatemala - The Guatemala Food and Nutritional Security Council is giving the final touches to a plan of action aimed at reducing the rates of chronic malnutrition.

This document will be handed over to President Alvaro Colom Wednesday and will be disclosed to the International Community to keep it up to date to the need of support, revealed Vice President Rafael Espada who is leading the Council.

A multisectorial table elaborates the strategy with priorities and actions to undertake in short, middle and long terms urgently because of the difficult situation in most of the country.

The document will also contribute to realize donations and technical, economic and material aid offered by a group South American donors and nations which have expressed their solidarity with Guatemala, said Espada.

The Vice President talked about the need to coordinate immediate movement of aid to the areas more affected by chronic malnutrition.

Guatemala has been recently declared in state of calamity to face this problem that will provide the use of funds to palliate the food crisis inside the country.
