President Says Media Law
Reform Concerns All
Buenos Aires - Argentine
President Cristina Fernandez said on Monday
that the bill on media law reform, which is
being hotly debated in Congress, concerns
"all the people" in the country.
At the press conference held in Rosada
House, Fernandez said the bill is seeking to
prevent phone companies from entering the
cable TV market.
"One of the objections is that we will
replace one monopoly with another," she
said.
Under the reform bill, phone companies are
banned from providing the so-called "triple
play" service, which offers telephone,
Internet and cable TV services from a single
integrated source.
Fernandez said the reform aims to protect
people's rights on media.
"The law is not a party's law, but for all
the people," she added.
The reform bill aims to reform the current
law which was enacted during the military
dictatorship from 1976 to 1983. |
