UNASUR Delegates Seeking Consensus
Quito - Representatives from the 12 member nations
of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR)
are meeting there Monday to try to reach
consensus on the resolution that the foreign
and defense ministers are to approve on
Tuesday.
Delegates from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil,
Chile, Colombia, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru,
Surinam, Uruguay, and Venezuela, under
Ecuador's temporary chairmanship, have
confirmed their attendance to the
extraordinary meeting agreed by their
presidents at the Bariloche Summit,
Argentina, on August 28.
Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Fander Falconi
said on Friday UNASUR is an ambitious
regional integration project, able to solve
its own safety problems, and that process
should start Tuesday when the foreign and
defense ministers meet.
Referring to tomorrow's meeting, Ecuadorian
Defense Minister Javier Ponce reiterated
that recovering confidence among the UNASUR
countries entails a process and the
fulfilment of measures and a conduct code,
which will be debated tomorrow.
The meeting will take place at Hotel Hilton
Colon's Los Shyris Hall, at 9:00 hours local
time, with Minister Falconi welcoming the
top-level delegations. |
