Road Closures Announced For Monday And
Tuesday For Independence Day
The Avenida Segunda and Paseo Colón in
downtown San José will be closed tomorrow
for the arrival for the "antorcha de la
independencia" (independence torch).
The Ministerio de Obras Públicas y
Transportes (MOPT) advises that main road
into San José will be completely closed off
between 4pm and 7pm, as the historic
independence torch makes its way through the
downtown area.
Come Tuesday, the Avenida Segunda will again
be closed from 8am to allow for the parades
of students that is typical for independence
day celebrations. As well the roads around
the Parque Nacional will be closed off from
7am on Tuesday to allow a number of civic
activities planned for the day.
Tuesday is a national holiday in Costa Rica,
the day celebrating Costa Rica's 188th
independence from Spain.
Banks and most businesses will be closed on
Tuesday and there will be no vehicular
restrictions applied.
