ICE Asks
Customers To Turn
Their Cell Phones Off And On This Weekend
The
Instituto Costarricense de Electridicad
(ICE), the sole provider of cellular service
in Costa Rica, will be making a move to
upgrade its GSM network and is asking all GSM Subscribers to
turn off their phones and then turn them
back on.
The needed action is to be taken on
Saturday, September 12.
According to ICE the turn off / turn on
action is for the cellular unit to register
itself with the upgraded network. Although
ICE is asking all GSM customers to take the
action, only cellular phones currently
connected to the Alcatel network are
required to do so.
ICE has decided to terminate completely its
relationship with Alcatel, the original
installation of the GSM cellular service,
preferring to continue with only one
network, the Ericsson network, a newer
platform and with more mobile services
capacity.
Some 1.8 million customers will be affected
by the change.
The change will not affect the 300,000
customers on the TDMA network. |
