Venezuela Tightens Colombia Border Control
Caracas - Venezuelan authorities informed on
Wednesday that controls on the border with
Colombia have been reinforced, after the
deterioration in bilateral relations caused
by the setting up of US military bases in
Colombian territory.
"Border check-ups have been fully
increased," La nacion daily quoted tax
superintendent Jose David Cabello as saying.
However, he noted, customs operations
continue as usual, goods keep coming and
going.
The Tachira customs is among those that have
best accomplished the 2009 collection goal,
with 80 percent, Cabello indicated.
The remaining 20 percent, he said, could not
be attained due to the economic reasons
affecting the entire world, rather than the
tension caused by the bases which, according
to Venezuela, threatens its sovereignty and
the region.
We are all aware of the world crisis, and
neither Venezuela nor Colombia escape
unharmed, the superintendent affirmed. |
