Heredia Train Eases Traffic Congestion
The Heredia - San José commuter train has
reduced traffic congestion between the
cuidad de las flores and the downtown San
José by 25%, according to the latest
calculations by transportation officials.
According to the Instituto Costarricense de
Ferrocarriles (Incofer), on average 3.000
people daily take the train to and from
Heredia and San José, reducing the number of
vehicles on the road.
The reduction translates into a savings of
15 to 20 minutes of travel time during peak
hours by those who continue to drive from
Heredia to San José.
Miguel Carabaguiaz, president of the Incofer,
added that some 5.000 people daily are
expected to use the train, further reducing
traffic congestion.
Transportation officials calculate 65.000
vehicles daily travel between Heredia and
San José.
