Electricity Rate Reduction Decision On
Wednesday
The Tribunal Contencioso Administrativo said
it would
handdown the decision on the electricity
rate decrease of 7.2% on Wednesday.
On Monday, judgeGrace Loaiza Sánchez heard
arguments by both the Instituto
Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE)and the
Autoridad Reguladora de Servicios Públicos (Aresep).
The week before last the Aresep approved the
reduction in electrical rates that were to
have taken effect on September 1. However,
ICE appealed the decision, saying in its
court
filing that the reduction would negatively
affect the financial position of the
institution.
The Tribunal, a wee ago Monday, suspended the Aresep rate decrease, scheduling a
hearing for Friday, September 4, which was
postponed to yesterday.
ICE argued on Monday that the Aresep
decision is an attack on the financial
balance of the institution.
On the other side, the Aresep argued that consumers should benefit
from the savings ICE made this year in the cost of
fuel to produce electricity.
Judge Loaiza said she would hand down her
decision on Wednesday. |
