Colombians Reject Military Bases
Caracas - The
fact of establishing US military bases is
rejected by the Colombian people, who have
joined the waves of protests against those
military enclaves, Deputy to the Democratic
Pole in North Santander Ramon Tamara
asserted on Thursday .
Colombian President Alvaro Uribe is
violating the Constitution and ignoring the
Republic's Congress, which should approve
movement and circulation of foreign troops
around the country, told Tamara to La Nacion
newspaper from the Venezuelan Tachira state.
According to the deputy of this department
Uribe is also ignoring the concept that the
Constitutional Court can give, because it is
the authority that would be ultimately
responsible for validating what the
Colombian Congress approves.
In his opinion, the bases represent a threat
that could become extremely dangerous for
democracy in the neighboring country if
Uribe is elected for a third term of ofice.
Tamara said a military agreement with the
United States would be a disaster for
Colombia, the Colombians, the economy and
also for the good relations with the Latin
American countries, and will affect Latin
American integration. |
